Fr Bob: Seek the Grace of Conversion

Fr. Bob's Commentary, Fr. Bob's Commentary, Marian Apparitions, Marian Apparitions

OUR LADY OF MEDJUGORJE’S MESSAGE OF MAY 25, 2011

“Dear children! My prayer today is for all of you who seek the grace of conversion. You knock on the door of my heart, but without hope and prayer, in sin, and without the Sacrament of Reconciliation with God. Leave sin and decide, little children, for holiness. Only in this way can I help you, hear your prayers and seek intercession before the Most High. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

Seek the Grace of Conversion

We are approaching the 30th anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions and she is anxious to have us properly dressed for the occasion. Like every good mother, she wants us presentable, so that she can present us to the Father.

A. Decide for Holiness.
1. The Right Path. Driving along the highway we can get tired. We come to a city and take the turn-off for a rest. Without a map we can wander all over looking for a road that takes us back to the highway. In the process, we stop to shop here and there and can easily lose the reason for our travel.

The same thing can occur in our spiritual journey so that we do not know where we are going. In this message Our Lady puts a stop to that kind of activity by asking us to be decisive: get back on the highway that leads to God and decide for holiness. When we re-discover our goal, everything else falls into the proper place and we have peace because our journey makes sense.

2. The Only Path. We belong to the family of Mary. Mary is the Immaculate Virgin in whom there is no sin. We have to be like her. When people look at us, they should be able to easily recognize us as her true children. At the wedding feast of Cana, Jesus is revealed as the Bridegroom coming to meet His Bride – the Church – represented by Our Blessed Mother, who stands for all of us. We have to be where Mary is – without sin – so that we can be at her side to welcome Jesus.

3. The True Path. The Gospels reveal to us the universal call to holiness, because we are destined to live with God forever and He is all-holy. Vatican II renewed this call for us. We received the gift of holiness at our Baptism through the gift of the Holy Spirit by Whom we are clothed with Jesus Christ. We have to be sure to be wearing such clothing so that Jesus recognizes us as His own when He comes.

B. Leave Sin Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
1. Pray to the Holy Spirit for help and enlightenment. This is the first of several steps that Jesus revealed to St. Faustina on how to properly receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Holy Spirit brings illumination and discernment to help us in our preparation.

2. Examine your conscience in My presence Jesus says. This is a great help to make us sincere and clear and complete in our self-accusation, because Jesus will surely point out anything we missed. It also helps us realize that we have wounded the person of Jesus through our sin.

3. Trust. Jesus says that trust is the unique key to unlock the treasures of His mercy. We are to approach Him steeped in the misery of our sins and to look at Him as an ocean of limitless Mercy with total and complete confidence. Then, He says, we will come out of Confession like a new-born babe.

C. Knock on My Door.
1. In Prayer. Like a mother holding her new-born baby, Our Blessed Mother will recognize us as her true child and she will gather us to herself and hug us and tell us that she loves us. Whatever we really need, she will truly give us as she is the Mediatrix of All Grace. With the complete trust of a child, we will be bonded anew to her and her Immaculate Heart.

2. And Hope. Our Lady will meet our every need. She once said that even if we need a miracle, she will do it. At the end of times in which we live, she said that God has given her the golden key which means that God has given her complete power to triumph over evil and win her victory. This should give us immense hope, especially if we are trying as hard as we can to be her faithful servants carrying out all her wishes and requests.

May is the Month We Honor Our Mother

Fr. Bob's Commentary, Fr. Bob's Commentary, Marian Apparitions, Marian Apparitions, Medjugorje

OUR LADY OF MEDJUGORJE‟S MESSAGE OF APRIL 25, 2011

“Dear children! As nature gives the most beautiful colors of the year, I also call you to witness with your life and to help others to draw closer to my Immaculate Heart, so that the flame of love for the Most High may
sprout in their hearts. I am with you and I unceasingly pray for you that your life may be a reflection of
Heaven here on earth. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

May is the Month We Honor Our Mother

A. May is Dedicated to Mary.

  1. Our Mother. Mother’s Day is such a very special occasion. It is the day when all the children come bringing bouquets of roses to the one they love so much. And a mother is never more happy when all her children are gathered around her as family. Our Blessed Mother is a little distraught because all her children are not with her, and she is asking each one of us to go out and bring her wandering children to her.
    1. At the Annunciation. When Our Blessed Mother conceived Jesus with such eminent faith and love, she also conceived at the same time all the members of the Mystical Body of Christ. Lumen Gentium points this out (c. 8 #53) by quoting St. Augustine: “She (Mary) is clearly the Mother of the members of Christ.” She is truly our Mother and all her children belong to her in a very special way.
    2. And on Calvary. Jesus made this very explicit when, from the Cross, He said: “Woman behold your son.” And to John, who represented each one of us: “Son, behold your Mother.” And John took her into his home.
  2. Who Loves us so Tenderly. Our Mother suffered excruciating pain in the loss of her Son on Calvary, and Jesus filled the loss by placing us in her heart. The amazing mystery is that in her faith and charity she accepted us and transferred all her attention, care and affection on us with the same intensity that she placed on Jesus.
  3. And Wants to Form Us in the image of her Son so that we might work with her for the salvation of all.

B. Witness with Your Life.

  1. By Living Your Consecration. Pope John Paul II is the only Pope I know who said that Consecration is an absolute necessity for everyone, because, he said, a child is obliged to get to know and experience his mother. By consecrating ourselves to Mary, we entrust ourselves to the loving care and affection of Our Lady and we do this totally and forever.
    1. Under Her Guidance. Our Lady reminds us that once consecrated to her, we cannot make any decisions on our own. We are to consult her at every turn and follow her advice with docility and complete fidelity.
    2. And in Union with Her. Our Lady said that little infants have their eyes glued on their mother always and they depend on her for everything.
  2. With True Devotion. The saints say five characteristics make up true devotion.
    1. Respect and Esteem for the excellence of Our Mother – and what a Mother we have! – with the marvels of her magnificent privileges and attributes.
    2. Confidence and Trust. Mary is the Mother of God – what a powerful intercessor we have! And she is so anxious to pour out on us the manifestations of her goodness, love and mercy.
    3. Love and Devotedness. She keeps insisting that she loves us with an infinite love and begs us to please open our hearts to her.
    4. Imitation of Her Virtues. Our Lady is crowned with twelve magnificent virtues: renunciation of the world, self-abnegation, silence, recollection, faith, humility, dedication to the Word, obedience, love of God love of neighbor, mercy and compassion.
    5. e. Zeal in promoting knowledge and love of Mary and promoting her interests.

C. Help Others Come Close to My Immaculate Heart.

  1. By the power of example – your loving devotedness to me.
  2. By leading others to consecrate themselves to me.
  3. By inviting others to pray the Rosary with you.
  4. By leading them to join a prayer group.
  5. By emphasizing the importance of praying in union with me, especially at Holy Mass and in reciting the Rosary.
  6. By encouraging them to live in My Heart by a constant union of hearts.
  7. By having them walk with me and talk with me throughout the day.
  8. By reminding them to consult me before making decisions.
  9. By telling them to ask me for any graces or favors they need.
  10. By insisting that I love them very much.

Conversion is Saying “Yes”

Fr. Bob's Commentary, Fr. Bob's Commentary, Marian Apparitions, Marian Apparitions, Medjugorje

OUR LADY OF MEDJUGORJE‟S MESSAGE OF MARCH 25, 2011

“Dear children! In a special way today I desire to call you to conversion. As of today, may new life begin in your heart. Children, I desire to see your „yes‟, and may your life be a joyful living of God‟s will at every moment of your life. In a special way today, I bless you with my motherly blessing of peace, love and unity in my heart and in the heart of my Son Jesus. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

Conversion is saying “Yes”

A. The Importance of Saying “Yes”

Our Lady’s Message was given on March 25, the Feast of the Annunciation. The Mystery of the Annunciation commemorates “yes” said on three very important occasions in the past and highlights the profound significance of the fourth “Yes” which is our own.

1. The Father‟s “Yes”. When Adam and Eve committed original sin, they lost their promise of a great and glorious future. The Father, full of compassion for the salvation of His children, said “yes” to the possibility of offering eternal life to them a second time. He revealed by this that He was indeed a gracious and merciful Father.
2. The Son‟s “Yes”. The Son, sharing the same mercy and compassion, concurred with the Father and said “yes” – He would be willing to come down to earth to save His abandoned children.
3. Mary‟s “Yes”. Our Lady speaks: “When the Father decided to place his Word in my virginal womb, He found your Mother ready to welcome Him with love and joy, being only intent upon the perfect fulfillment of the divine will.” Mary gave her “yes” and her “yes” was complete and unconditional.
4. Our “Yes”. Our Lady continues: “My beloved children, contemplate your Mother at the moment of her annunciation, as with her Heart and her lips she says her “yes” to the Will of the Lord. You too should learn always to say “yes” to whatever the Lord now asks of you through the voice that comes from the Immaculate Heart of your heavenly Mother.”

B. Our Lady Shows Us the Way.

1. God‟s Love. “Do you see how God entrusted Himself completely to this human creature of His? The reason is to be found in the mystery of the love of God.”

2. God‟s Motivation. “What moved God to stoop down to me?”

a. My Humility. “It was the profound sense of my humility, my nothingness, and my littleness. This poverty of mine made me totally dependent on God.”

b. My Childlike Trust. “It was my childlike trust that I joyfully placed in such a good and loving
Father.”

c. My Availability. “I made myself completely available for the accomplishment of the Will of God. I
placed myself at his service by renouncement of the world and the cultivation of silence, hiddenness
and intimate union with God.”

3.What Our Lady Expects from Us.

a. Entrustment. Personal surrender to Our Lady with the greatest confidence and complete abandonment by which she will make us docile to the divine Will.
b. An Unconditional “Yes”. This is proclaimed by our Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and includes a “yes” to the Will of God, a “yes” to the Gospel of Jesus, a “yes” to the love of the Holy Spirit.
c. Complete Availability. This will allow Our Lady to form us into a perfect image of her Son and a life of service to the Will of God.

C. Conversion.

1. Our Lady wants us to live at every moment in the Divine Will and to accomplish this she asks that we seek the Father’s Blessing at the beginning of each day.

2. Our Lady wants us to be attentive and responsive to what Jesus says to us in Holy Scripture, to love His Word, treasure it, place it in our hearts, live it.

3. Our Lady wants us to read and pray her monthly message each day and put what she tells us into practice. She said that if we try to do all she tells us in the messages we will be living a life of continual conversion.

Fr. Bob: Proper Prayer

Fr. Bob's Commentary, Fr. Bob's Commentary, Marian Apparitions, Medjugorje

Our Lady Queen of Peace of Medjugorje’s February 2, 2011 Message

Through Mirjana Soldo Given on the Day for Non-Believers

“Dear children, you are gathering around me, you are seeking your way, you are seeking, you are seeking the truth but are forgetting what is the most important, you are forgetting to pray properly. Your lips pronounce countless words, but your spirit does not feel anything. Wandering in darkness, you even imagine God Himself according to yourselves, and not such as He really is in His love. Dear children, proper prayer comes from the depth of your heart, from your suffering, from your joy, from your seeking the forgiveness of sins. This is the way to come to know the right God, and by that also yourselves, because you are created according to Him. Prayer will bring you to the fulfillment of my desire, of my mission here with you, to the unity of God’s family. Thank you.”

“What is Most Important is To Pray Properly.”

Step 1. UNION with OUR LADY. “you are gathering around me”
a. “God sends me to help you.” “I want to lead you in prayer.”
b. “Pray with your Mother.” “I am always with you.” “My name is love.”
c. “I will help you…guide you…protect you…bless you…love you.”
Step 2. REALIZE WHO GOD IS: “GOD IS LOVE” (I John 4) “you imagine God according to yourselves”
a. God is your FATHER.
1) He created you in His image. He loves you immeasurably. You are His child.
2) He chose you…for a great mission…so great you can’t comprehend it.
3) He cares for you…waits for you…desires to bless you each day.
b. Jesus is your BROTHER.
1) He is your SAVIOR: He died for you. His heart is your home.
2) He is your SHEPHERD: leading you to the Father…and eternal life.
3) He is your BEST FRIEND: always watching you…your heart…with great love.
c. The Holy Spirit is your ADVOCATE.
1) He is right by your side always with you trying to bring you to Jesus.
2) He is always defending you…protecting you…urging and inspiring you.
3) He wants to gift you with faith, hope, love, joy, peace, patience.
Step 3. COME WITH FEELINGS IN YOUR HEART. “your spirit does not feel anything”
a. Joy. “Prayer is joy.” Express your delight in being with your God.
b. Confidence. “Call me by the sweet name of Father with confidence – all is yours.”
c. Appreciation…for all He has done for you and is doing for you.
d. Gratitude. “Thank God for every least little gift that you recognize.”
e. Love. “Pray out of love…from your heart…with fervor and strength intensely.”
f. Desire…to please Him.
1) “What do you want of me?” “What am I to do?”
2) “How am I not pleasing you?” “What is it you do not like?”
g. Ask for graces you need…pray for your family members, your friends. Pray for the Pope, Bishops,
priests, deacons, laity, youth, children, peace.
Step 4. PRAY FROM THE DEPTH OF YOUR HEART.
a. “From your JOY.”
b. “From your SUFFERING.”
c. “From your seeking the FORGIVENESS OF SINS.”
Step 5. GROW IN KNOWLEDGE.
a. “To know the right (true) God.”
b. “To know yourselves.”
c. To realize “the unity of God’s family.”

Fr Bob: This World Will Change For The Good

Fr. Bob's Commentary, Fr. Bob's Commentary, Marian Apparitions, Marian Apparitions, Medjugorje

OUR LADY OF MEDJUGORJE‟S MESSAGE OF JANUARY 25, 2011

“Dear children! Also today I am with you and I am looking at you and blessing you, and I am not losing hope that this world will change for the good and that peace will reign in the hearts of men. Joy will begin to reign in the world because you have opened yourselves to my call and to God‟s love. The Holy Spirit is changing a multitude of those who have said “yes‟. Therefore I desire to say to you: thank you for having responded to my call.”

This World Will Change For The Good

Once again, in these dark times Our Lady gives us a great message of HOPE.

A. Peace Will Reign.

1. In Hearts. Jesus said once that there will not be peace on earth until people learn to live as one family under God. That is the basic thrust of this message and also of the message that our Lady gave to Mirjana on January 2, 2011:

“I call you to unity with Jesus, my Son. My motherly heart prays that you may comprehend that you are in God‟s family. Open your hearts…discover the heavenly Father through my Son. In discovering the Father, your life will be directed to carrying out God‟s Will and the realization of God‟s family.”

2. Through Forgiveness. Recently Our Lady gave a marvelous explanation on how to properly assist at Mass to Catalina Rivas in Bolivia. Our Lord was silent until the Our Father; then He said: “Wait, I want you to pray with the deepest profundity: “In the name of Jesus I forgive those persons who have done me the greatest harm. Do not receive nor offer peace when you are not capable of forgiving and feeling peace in your heart.”

3. Of Enemies. Jesus once complained to Maria Valtorta that people do not forgive; they pray for the downfall of their enemies. All over the earth He said people hold resentments and so the only refuge He has is in the heart of His Mother who truly loves all her children the world over. He said all people in the world are one‟s brothers and sisters and we must love them.

B. Because You Have Opened Yourselves And Said “Yes‟.

1. To My Call. Our Lady‟s central and only call is to pray and to pray unceasingly. She said that if we could only understand the power of prayer, especially the Rosary, we would pray continually. Why? Because “prayer is the only path to peace.” And she wants us to pray with her, because she is the Queen of Peace and God always listens to her prayers. But to pray with her, we must first always cleanse our heart: “Dear children, I have come to you with open arms, to take you all into my embrace, under my mantle. I cannot do this while your heart is filled with false glitters and false idols. Cleanse your heart and allow my angels to begin to sing in it!” (8-2-05)

2. And To God‟s Love.

a. Love Him. “Dear children, you have become “empty‟ and your heart has become “hard‟ and without love. The dear Father has loved you…He sacrificed His Son for your salvation. As long as you do not love, you will not come to know the love of your Father, because God is love. Reflect (on this) a long time: Great is God‟s love. Consecrate your heart and make it the home of the Lord.”

b. Trust Him. “Have more faith and trust in God Who loves you immeasurably.”

1) “I call you to build up a New World of Peace together with me by means of prayer….God will do the rest.” (12-25-02)

2) “To what shall I compare the Kingdom of God? It is like a mustard seed that is the smallest of seeds when it is sown in the ground. But once it is sown, it springs up to become the largest of plants and puts forth its branches so the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.” (Mark 4:30)

C. I Am With You.

1. I Am Looking At You. St. Therese had a dream in which Our Lord asked her to come to Him by looking into His eyes. She became so captivated by the love in His eyes that she could not take her eyes off Him and landed in Heaven.

2. I Am Blessing You. Our Lady said when we look into her eyes, the light from her heart will fill our hearts with faith, trust and love.

3. The Bottom Line. All depends on our “YES” to pray in earnest with Our Lady.

-Rev. Robert Hughes, S.M.

Fr Bob: Be a Blessing and Be Peace

Fr. Bob's Commentary, Fr. Bob's Commentary, Marian Apparitions, Marian Apparitions, Medjugorje

OUR LADY OF MEDJUGORJE’S MESSAGE OF DECEMBER 25, 2010

“Dear children! Today, I and my Son desire to give you an abundance of joy and peace so that each of you may be a joyful carrier and witness of peace and joy in the places where you live. Little children, be a blessing and be peace. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

Annual Message to Jakov – December 25, 2010: “Pray, pray, pray.”

Be a Blessing and Be Peace

A. An Abundance of Joy and Peace.
When things look bleak and dismal, Our Lady is accustomed to give us an upbeat message of hope to bring us out of our doldrums.
1. An Abundance. Picture if you will Mary and Jesus knocking at the door of our little hovel where we live in abject poverty. We open the door and there they are carrying sacks of $100 bills spilling out all over. Out on the street is parked a semi packed with the same type of sacks. That is an image of the divine abundance coming from the Father that Our Lady is talking about.
2. Of Joy. We all feel great joy and happiness when we are in the presence of very close friends; our spirits are high and we are just bubbling over with excitement and chatter. Joy is the celebration over the possession of an immense good and the greatest good we can possess is love. Both Our Lord and Our Lady have been protesting constantly in extravagant ways that they love us immeasurably, infinitely, in super-abundance.
3. And Peace. Although biblical peace – Shalom – means the possession of every kind of blessing, initially, as in the New Testament, it means salvation, rescue. Our Lady is always exuberant when she talks of peace: “Peace – Jesus is your peace! Peace is the greatest gift of the Lord lavished upon you on Christmas Day. The Infant Jesus is the eternal Prince of Peace. His name is “Peace.” His gift is peace. His mission is to bring peace to everyone. „Glory to God in the heights of heaven and peace on earth to men of good will‟ – that is what the joyous angels are singing.”
B. The Key to This Message is “Pray, Pray, Pray.”

1. Desire. “I and my Son DESIRE to give you Joy and Peace.” The only way to respond to that great offer is to cultivate a desire in our hearts. Through prayer we discover our need; this opens our hearts and we express our desire to receive these precious gifts.
a. St. Ambrose. He says that Jesus comes every day down our street with great eagerness to bless us with His gifts, but He will only stop at our house if there is a light on inside. The light is on in our mind if there is vigilance – we are looking for Him. The light is on in our heart if there is a great desire to receive Him. Then He will pound on our door seeking entrance to spread out a banquet before us.
b. St. John describes the birth of Christ in terms of His divinity, bringing the gift of Light to those who are open to receive Him.
2. Need…opens the way to desire. For this, Our Lady calls for spiritual childhood. “Journey on the road of interior littleness in humility and the fragility of a child that knows its nothingness, and who is ever open to love and giving, expecting everything from the Heavenly Father. It is your sense of poverty that will draw down the Son of God to you.” Jesus says that humble people are open. We have to become so little that Our Mother can pick us up and hug us just the way she hugged the Child Jesus.
3. Prayer…is an act of humility where our hands are stretched out begging. The more we pray, the bigger beggars we become and our desire grows. I read a public testimony recently of a lady who was suddenly struck with a great desire to return to the Church. She decided to personalize her Confession expressing her deep regrets. She added her total forgiveness of everyone who ever hurt her. When she left the Confessional she was overcome by an extraordinary warmth in her heart that lasted five minutes. To this day she is still bubbling with joy and peace after thirty years!

Fr. Bob: Open Your Heart to God’s Mercy

Fr. Bob's Commentary, Fr. Bob's Commentary, Marian Apparitions, Marian Apparitions, Medjugorje

OUR LADY OF MEDJUGORJE’S MESSAGE OF NOVEMBER 25, 2010

“Dear children! I look at you and I see in your heart death without hope, restlessness and hunger. There is no prayer or trust in God, that is why the Most High permits me to bring you hope and joy. Open yourselves. Open your hearts to God’s mercy and He will give you everything you need and will fill your hearts with peace, because He is peace and your hope. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

Open Your Hearts to God’s Mercy

A. St. Therese Shows Us the Way.

1. God is a Father. When Therese was very young, her father took her to Midnight Mass and told her that God was going to be born again in a manger. Therese was very excited, so after Mass she hurried to the crypt to see this great event where Joseph and Mary were looking at the baby Jesus lying in a manger. She stayed there for quite some time contemplating this amazing scene, and drew several profound conclusions that would form the foundation of her “little way.”

2. With A Father’s Heart. Therese thought that if God would leave the happiness of heaven and stoop so low as to be born in a manger to rescue His children, that meant that God would do anything for her. The important thing was to remain small and needy, and, since God has a father’s heart, we can unfailingly obtain anything we need from Him. The secret was to know how to get hold of His heart by childlike confidence.

3. Won Over by Filial Trust. Therese gives an example in one of her Letters. “Suppose two children have been disobedient. One trembles and runs away from the father in terror. The other throws himself into his father’s arms, telling him he is sorry, he loves him, and from now on he will be good. Now if that child asks his father to punish him with a kiss, the happy father’s heart will not be able to resist his son’s sincerity, love and filial trust.” Therese learned this in part by reading St. John of the Cross.

a. “Happy is the soul who loves, because that soul holds God captive, and obtains from him all that he desires.” Spiritual Canticle B #36

b. “What touches God’s heart and triumphs over it is a firm hope.” Maxim #112

c. “God has such high esteem for the hope possessed by souls that ceaselessly turn to him and rely on him alone, that one can truly say that they obtain all that they hope for.” Maxim #119

4. And Love. In prayer, Therese was relentless in expressing her love.

a. “I know God. He is a father, a mother, who in order to be happy must have his child upon his knee, resting against his heart.”

b. “I do not stay there for my own sake, but for his. I go to see the Father because this delights him. He likes to see me.”

c. “To be a little child is to recognize our nothingness and to expect everything from God as a little child expects everything from its father; the child is disquieted about nothing,” “I must be small as smaller than ever.

B. The Father Speaks to His Children. (Messages to Mother Eugenia Ravasio)

1. “Realize, O man, that for all eternity I have had but one desire: to make Myself known to men and to be loved by them. I want to stay with them forever.”

2. “I promised the world a Messiah. Would men know Me? Listen to Me? They will ignore My presence. In My Son, they will treat me cruelly; they will crucify Me to bring about My death. Oh, how My paternal love has been forgotten by men! Yet I love you so tenderly!”

3. “Most men know all this, but they fail to grasp the essential thing: that love was the guiding principle in it all! You can conclude from this that there is a Father Who is above all fathers, Who loves you and will never cease to love you, if you so desire.”

4. “To conclude, I make you a promise: Call Me by the sweet name of Father, with confidence and love, and you will receive everything from this Father, with love and mercy. I would like everybody to call Me by the familiar name of Father and Friend.”

C. Practice.

1. Thank the Father for every gift you recognize.

2. Say the Our Father with childlike affection.

3. Upon arising, seek the Father’s blessing for the day.

-Rev. Robert Hughes, S.M.

Our Lady of Cuapa, Nicaragua

Devotion to Mary, Marian Apparitions, Marian Apparitions, Prayers

Our Lady of Cuapa, Nicaragua

Preceding Mary’s apparition  the sacristy lights were mysteriously illuminated on two separate occasions. On April 15, 1980 the sacristan, Bernardo Martinez witnessed the Marian statue in the chapel light up on it’s own. Bernardo believed that the Holy Mother was angry at him for arguing with others. He went out to seek forgiveness from those people, but after retelling what happened to him they laughed at him, disbelieving what he claimed to see. Because of this ridicule he prayed, “Blessed Mother, please do not request anything of me. I have many problems in the church. Make your request known to some other person because I want to avoid any more problems. I have a great many now. I don’t want any more.” Just to be sure he avoided going near that statue.

Returning from a fishing trip on May 8, 1988 Bernardo saw two lightning flashes. On the second flash the Virgin Mary appeared to him. Bernardo describes the event: “It looked like the statue of the Virgin of Fatima. I was immobile. I had no inclination to run, to yell, I felt no fear, I was surprised. I had thought and said: ‘What am I seeing? … Could it be the same statue of the Virgin that they brought and placed here for me? … The statue from the chapel … Is it in order to play a joke on me because I said I saw it illuminated? … Is it a trick? … But no! I would have seen them carrying it.’ I then passed my hand over my face because I thought that what I saw was a dream. And I said, ‘Could it be that I am asleep, but I have not tripped over anything.’

“And when I removed my hands from my face, I saw that she had human skin and that her eyes moved and She blinked. I then said, in my thoughts, because I could not move my tongue … I said: ‘She is alive. … She is not a statue. … She is alive!’ My mind was the only thing that I could move. I felt like numb, my lower jaw stiff and my tongue as if asleep, everything immobilized, as I said, only the ideas moved in my head. I was in those thoughts when She extended Her arms — like the Miraculous Medal, which I never had seen, but which later was shown to me. She extended Her arms and from Her hands emanated rays of light stronger than the sun. She was – She rested up high and the rays that came from Her hands touched my breast. When she gave out Her light is when I became encouraged to speak, although somewhat stammering. I said to her: ‘What is your name?

“She answered me with the sweetest voice I have ever heard in any woman, not even in persons who speak softly. She answered me and said that Her name was Mary. I saw the way She moved Her lips. I then said: ‘She is alive! She spoke! She has answered my question!’ I could see that we could enter into a conversation; that I could speak with Her. I asked her, then, where She came from. She told me with the same sweetness:

Apparition to Bernardo

“I come from Heaven. I am the Mother of Jesus. At hearing this I immediately asked Her — remembering what the priest had told me — I asked Her: ‘What is it you want?’

“I want the Rosary to be prayed everyday.’

“I then interrupted and said to Her: ‘Yes, we are praying it. — The priest brought us the intentions of the San Francisco parish so that we would unite ourselves with them.’

“She told me: ‘I don’t want it prayed only in the month of May. I want it to be prayed permanently, within the family, including the children old enough to understand; to be prayed at a set hour when there are no problems with the work in the home.’

‘Love each other. Fulfill your obligations. Make peace. Don’t ask our Lord for peace because if you do not make it there will be no peace. Renew the Five First Saturdays. You received many graces when all of you did this.’

Mary explained to Bernardo that we should not make prayers in a rush, or in a mechanical fashion, to avoid doing this she told him to read bible passages to go along with the mysteries of the rosary. She continued to speak to Bernardo, “Nicaragua has suffered much since the earthquake. She is threatened with even more suffering. She will continue to suffer if you don’t change. — Pray! Pray, my son, the Rosary for all the world. Tell believers and non-believers that the world is threatened by grave dangers. I ask the Lord to appease His Justice, but if you don’t change, you will hasten the arrival of a Third World War.’

“After She had said these words, I understood that I had to say this to the people and I told her: ‘Lady, I don’t want problems. I have many in the Church. Tell this to another person.’ She then told me:

“No, because Our Lord has selected you to give the message.”

Bernardo was frightened to spread Mary’s message because of the persecution he endured earlier. He kept the vision to himself for eight days until Mary appeared to him again.

“Why have you not told what I sent you to tell?’

“Lady, it is that I am afraid. I am afraid of being the ridicule of the people, afraid that they will laugh at me, that they will not believe me. Those, who will not believe this, will laugh at me. They will say that I am crazy.”

“Do not be afraid. I am going to help you. And tell the priest.”

Bernardo began telling people what he had seen, and when he told his pastor he was instructed to continue telling people what he had witnessed, but if he had any more visions or messages he was to tell no one and talk to the priest only.

On June 8th Our Lady appeared again. This time she had four visions for Bernardo, which she gave to him like “movies in the sky”.  The first vision was of the first Christians singing and marching towards heaven. They were dressed in white singing and marching, their bodies glowing with light. The second vision was of another group of people also dressed in white. They held illuminated rosaries in their hands. The leader read from a book, and after meditating on the reading they prayed an Our Father and 10 Hail Marys Mary explained that, “They are the first ones to whom I gave the Rosary. That is the way that I want all of you to pray the Rosary.”

In the third vision Bernardo saw a group of men dressed in brown robes. Mary explained that these were the Franciscans, “These received the Rosary from the hands of the first ones.”

In the fourth vision he saw a large group, like an army, of people in normal dress all holding rosaries. Bernardo described them as, “normal except that they radiated light from their bodies, and their bodies were all beautiful”. He wanted to go join them even though he was not illuminated, because they were dressed like he was but Mary said, “No! You are still lacking. You have to tell the people what you have seen and heard. I have shown you the glory of Our Lord and you people will acquire this if you are obedient to Our Lord, to the Lord’s Word; if you persevere in praying the Holy Rosary and put into practice the Lord’s Word.”

After this apparition Bernardo did as the priest asked and only told him about the vision. This was important, because in order to be a legitimate apparition it needed to be approved by the church first, since the church is the protector of the Word of God. The priest of course gave Bernardo permission to spread the message he was given.

On July 8, 1980 Bernardo had a vision of prophecy, this time from an angel. The angel told Bernardo to tell a woman how and when her brother would get released from jail because he was innocent. He had a message for another woman regarding her alcoholic father and brother as well as her problems teaching in a communist school. Finally the angel warned Bernardo that his cousin would be assaulted and later killed. All of these prophecies came to pass exactly as the angel described.

On the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, October 13, 1980, a large glowing circle appeared above the ground in front of 50 people that had gathered to say The Holy Rosary.

“It was 3:00 in the afternoon. One could feel a small breeze that moved softly. Pleasant, like a fresh shower, but which did not wet us. While we observed this, we were silent and continued seeing that circle of light which gave off colored lights from the exact center, where the sun is at twelve noon.

“All of a sudden a lightning flash, the same as the other times; then, a second one. I lowered my eyes and I saw the Lady.”

Bernardo begged her to appear to those that did not believe in his visions. Her face became pale and her cloths grey, appearing as Our Lady of Sorrows, she said to Bernardo, “It saddens me to see the hardness of those persons’ hearts. But you will have to pray for them so that they will change. Pray the Rosary. Meditate on the mysteries. Listen to the Word of God spoken in them. Love one another. Love each other. Forgive each other. Make peace. Don’t ask for peace without making peace, because if you don’t make it, it does no good to ask for it.

Fulfill your obligations. Put into practice the world of God. Seek ways to please God. Serve your neighbor as that way you will please Him.

They ask of me things that are unimportant. Ask for Faith in order to have the strength so that each can carry his own cross.

The suffering of this world cannot be removed. That is the way life is. There are problems with the husband, with the wife, with the children, with the brothers. Talk, converse, so that problems will be resolved in peace. Do not turn to violence. Never turn to violence. Pray for faith in order that you will have patience.

You will no longer see me in this place.”

Bernardo cried out: “Don’t leave us, my Mother! Don’t leave us, my Mother! Don’t leave us, my Mother.”

“Do not be grieved. I am with all of you even though you do not see me. I am the Mother of All you sinners.

Love one another. Forgive each other. Make peace, because if you don’t make it, there will be no peace. Do not turn to violence. Never turn to violence.

Nicaragua has suffered a great deal since the earthquake, and will continue to suffer if all of you don’t change. If you don’t change you will hasten the coming of the Third World War.

Pray, pray, my son, for all the world. Grave dangers threaten the world. The Mother never forgets Her children, and I have not forgotten what you suffer. I am the Mother of all of you sinners. Invoke me with these words.

Holy Virgin, You are my Mother, the Mother to all of us sinners.”

At this point Mary’s message was complete, “Pray the Rosary, meditate on the life of Christ and the Beatitudes, pray together in the family, never rush or say mechanically your prayers, make peace, never violence, love, forgive, please God, and put into practice the Word of God.” Mary’s message is nothing new; it follows closely the message of Fatima. At Fatima Our Lady urged us to pray The Holy Rosary, in Cuapa she urges us to say it correctly. She also stressed the need to continue the Five First Saturday Devotion. At Fatima The Blessed Virgin requested that we pray for peace, in Cuapa she added that peace must first start in our families and in our hearts.

These Apparitions were officially approved by the church in 1982, and shortly after Bernardo Martinez was ordained a priest.

Prayer

The Virgin Mary encouraged Bernardo Martinez to say this prayer:

St. Mary of Victory, Favorite Daughter of God the Father, give me your faith; Mother of God the Son, give me your hope; Sacred Spouse of God the Holy Spirit, give me your charity and cover us with your mantle.”

She requested that she be invoked with these words:
“Holy Virgin, you are my Mother, the Mother to all of us sinners…”

Our Lady of Akita, Japan

Devotion to Mary, Marian Apparitions, Marian Apparitions, The Catholic Church on Mary

Background

Sister Agnes Katsuko Sasagawa became paralyzed at age 19 from a poorly performed appendix surgery. After 16 years or hospital visits and surgeries she started showing signs of improvement and joined the community of Nuns of the Virgin Mary in Nagasaki. After another bout of health problems and now totally deaf she entered the order of Eucharistic Servants of Yuzawadai, located in Akita Japan.

Miraculous Events

On June 12, 1973 Sr. Agnes observed a mysterious radiant light emanate from the tabernacle. She experienced this same phenomena the next two days. On June 28 Sr. Agnes received a cross-shaped stigmata on her left hand, which was both painful and bloody.

The sisters of The Eucharistic Servants had a 3-foot statue of The Blessed Virgin that was carved out of a single piece of a Katsura tree, standing 3 feet tall. It was on July 6, while in prayer that Sr. Agnes heard a voice coming from that very statue which was now glowing brilliantly. She was visited by her Guardian Angel who comforted her with the words, “Do not fear. I am the one who is with you and watches over you. Do not fear. Pray with fervor not only because of your sins, but also in reparation for those of all men. The world today wounds the Most Sacred Heart of Our Lord by its ingratitude’s and injuries. The wounds of Mary are much deeper and sorrowful than yours. Let us go and pray together in the chapel.”

Later that day some of the other sisters noticed drops of blood running down the right hand of the statue. The wound remained until September 29, during this time it actively bleeds on 4 separate occasions. When the wound disappeared the statue of Mary began to perspire a scented perfume near her forehead and neck. On January 4, 1975 Mary’s statue began to weep, this occurred a total of 101 times over the next 7 years. The blood sweat and tears were all analyzed and declared to be authentic human blood sweat and tears.

Additionally in 1981 a woman of Korean dissent was miraculously cured of terminal brain cancer while praying before the statue. In April of 1984 Mary granted Sr. Agnes the full use of her hearing.

Messages

Sister Agnes Katsuko Sasagawa

1st Message July 6, 1973

“My daughter, my novice, you have obeyed Me well in abandoning all to follow Me. Is the infirmity of your ears painful? Your deafness will be healed, be sure. Be patient. It is the last trial. Does the wound of your hand cause you to suffer? Pray in reparation for the sins of men. Each person in this community is my irreplaceable daughter. Do you say well the prayer of the Handmaids of the Eucharist? Then, let us pray it together:”

“Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, truly present in the Holy Eucharist, I consecrate my body and soul to be entirely one with Your Heart being sacrificed at every instant on all the altars of the world and giving praise to the Father, pleading for the coming of His Kingdom.”

“Please receive this humble offering of myself. Use me as you will for the glory of the Father and the salvation of souls.”

“Most Holy Mother of God. Never let me be separated from your Divine Son. Please defend and protect me as Your special child. Amen.”

” Pray very much for the Pope, the bishops and the priests. Since your Baptism you have always prayed faithfully for them. Continue to pray very much…very much. Tell your superior all that passed today and obey him in everything that he will tell you. He has asked that you pray with fervor.

2nd Message August 3, 1973

“My daughter, my novice, do you love the Lord? If you love the Lord listen to what I have to say to you.”

“It is very important. You will convey it to your superior.”

“Many men in this world afflict the Lord. I desire souls to console Him to soften the anger of the Heavenly Father. I wish, with my Son, for souls who will repair by their suffering and their poverty for the sinners and ingrates.”

“In order that the world might know His anger, the Heavenly Father is preparing to inflict a great chastisement on all mankind. With my Son, I have intervened so many times to appease the wrath of the Father. I have prevented the coming of calamities by offering Him the sufferings of the Son on the Cross, His Precious Blood, and beloved souls who console Him and form a cohort of victim souls. Prayer, penance and courageous sacrifices can soften the Father’s anger. I desire this also from your community, that it love poverty, that it sanctify itself and pray in reparation for the ingratitude and outrages of so many men. Recite the prayer of the Handmaids of the Eucharist with awareness of its meaning: put it into practice: offer (whatever God may send) in reparation for sins. Let each one endeavor, according to capacity and position, to offer herself entirely to the Lord.”

“Even in a secular institute prayer is necessary. Already souls who wish to pray are on the way to being gathered. Without attaching too much attention to the form, be faithful and fervent in prayer to console the Master.”

Is what you think in your heart true? Are you truly decided to become the rejected stone? My novice, you who wish to belong without reserve to the Lord, to become the spouse worthy of the Spouse, make your vows knowing that you must be fastened to the Cross with three nails. These three nails are poverty, chastity, and obedience. Of the three, obedience is the foundation. In total abandon, let yourself be led by your superior. He will know how to understand you and to direct you.”

3rd Message October 13, 1973

“My dear daughter, listen well to what I have to say to you. You will inform your superior.”

(After a short silence:)

“As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead. The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by My Son. Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and priests

The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres…churches and altars sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.

The demon will be especially implacable against souls consecrated to God. The thought of the loss of so many souls is the cause of my sadness. If sins increase in number and gravity, there will be no longer pardon for them.

With courage, speak to your superior. He will know how to encourage each one of you to pray and to accomplish works of reparation.

It is Bishop Ito, who directs your community.

(And She smiled and then said:)

You have still something to ask? Today is the last time that I will speak to you in living voice. From now on you will obey the one sent to you and your superior. Pray very much the prayers of the Rosary. I alone am able still to save you from the calamites which approach. Those who place their confidence in me will be saved.”

The Church’s Approval

In April of 1984, after years of investigation the Bishop of Niigata, Rev. John Shojiro Ito, confirmed that the events surrounding the apparitions in Akita to be both miraculous and of supernatural origin. He authorized the veneration of the Holy Mother of Atika throughout his diocese.

Cardinal Ratzinger officially recognized the events and messages that occurred in Atika as authentic in June of 1988.

Eucharistic Prayer of Our Lady of Akita

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, truly present in the Holy Eucharist, I consecrate my body and my soul to be entirely one with Your Heart being sacrificed at every instant on all the altars of the world and giving praise to the Father, pleading for the coming of His Kingdom. Please receive this humble offering of myself. Use me as You will for the glory of the Father and the salvation of souls. Most holy Mother of God, never let me be separated from Your Divine Son. Please defend and protect me as Your Special Child.

Amen.

Our Lady of Kibeho, Rwanda

Marian Apparitions, Marian Apparitions, Sorrows of Mary

Our Lady of Kibeho

In 1981 Our Lady first appeared in Kibeho Africa to 17-year-old Alphonsine Mumreke with the words, “I am Mother of the Word. I have heard your prayers. I would like you and your companions to have more faith. Some do not believe enough.” Alphonsine said that, “The Virgin was not white as She is usually seen in holy pictures. I could not determine the color of Her skin, but She was of incomparable beauty. She was barefoot and had a seamless white dress, and also a white veil on Her head. Her hands were clasped together on Her breast, and Her fingers pointed to the sky. Later, I was told that I was in the dining room. My classmates told me that I was speaking in several languages: French, English, Kinyarwanda, etc. “When the Blessed Virgin was about to leave, I said three ‘Hail Marys’ and the prayer, ‘Come, Holy Spirit’. When She left, I saw Her rise to Heaven like Jesus.”

Mary appeared again to Alphonsine the next day and every Saturday for the next month. During this time she was treated with skepticism and prejudice. During her visions classmates would poke her with needles and burn her with matches to test the authenticity of the apparitions. One day Alphonsine brought her classmate’s rosaries before Mary to have them bless. To her surprise some of the rosaries became too heavy for her to lift up to be blessed. She later found out that those rosaries belonged to the students who didn’t believe in her visions.

In 1982 Mary appeared to Anathalie Mukamazimpaka and Marie Claire Mukangango, two other students at Alphonsine’s school. Marie Claire was one of the most outspoken about her disbelief in Alphonsine’s visions of Mary, but after her own apparition she was saying that, “One must meditate on the Passion of Jesus, and on the deep sorrows of His Mother. One must recite the Rosary every day, and also the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows of Mary, to obtain the favor of repentance.”

These three seers received Blessed Holy Water, visions of Heaven Purgatory and Hell, Instructions in Prayer, and Prophesies. Mary told Marie Claire to pray the Rosary of Seven Sorrows. “What I ask of you is repentance. If you recite this chaplet, while meditating on it, you will then have the strength to repent. Today, many people do not know any more how to ask forgiveness. They nail again the Son of God on the Cross. So I wanted to come and recall it to you, especially here in Rwanda, for here I have still found humble people, who are not attached to wealth nor money”. The Prophesies that eventually lead to The Apparitions approval in 2001 involved the genocide that occurred in 1994. During that civil war between 500,000 and 1,000,000 were beheaded and dumped into the Kagea River, creating a river of blood. Mary foretold “a river of blood, people who were killing each other, abandoned corpses with no one to bury them, a tree all in flames, bodies without their heads.” She also prophesied that sexual immorality would lead to tragedy just before the AIDS epidemic.

To avoid war and judgment Mary pleads that we pray fast and repent. In the words of John Paul II, “Pray to avoid war! And, above all, let us heed the requests of Our Lady: let us convert by going to confession, by confessing our sins with deep sorrow; let us go to Mass every Sunday; let us pray the Rosary by meditating on the mysteries that recall the main events of the life of Our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, related in the Gospel; let us recite the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows that reminds us that Mary took a close part in our Redemption, that She suffered along with Her Son Jesus to save us.”

Mary’s warnings and blessings are not localized to Rwanda, she explains to Marie Claire, “When I tell you this, I am not addressing myself strictly to you, child, but I am making this appeal to the world,”
